Supreme Court, judgement 9946/2017 (Italy)

The Italian Supreme Court recognised the refugee status to an asylum seeker fleeing from Pakistan, whose application was rejected by the Court of Appeal of Cagliari in 2016. Although the Supreme Court affirmed the need to collect sufficient elements to prove the applicant’s sexual orientation and the general situation in the country of origin, it considered the particular severe legislation in force in Pakistan against LGB people.
