Ourania Vamvaka-Tatsi, ‘LGBTQ+ Forced Migrants: Precarious Experiences of Arrival and Settlement in Wales’, in Jakobson, ML., King, R., Moroşanu, L., Vetik, R. (eds), Anxieties of Migration and Integration in Turbulent Times, IMISCOE Research Series, Springer, Cham, 2023.
Abstract
The refugee crisis has brought to the fore conversations on ‘asylum-seekers’ and ‘refugees’, terms that suggest a linear progression through the legal system and risk over-simplifying migration patterns. This chapter seeks to contribute to research on queer asylum policy by focusing on how LGBTQ+ forced migrants’ precarious and traumatic experiences of arrival and settlement in Wales raise questions around otherness, belonging, community, expression of sexual orientation and gender identities.
